Rebecca Medel’s sculptures are made by the ancient technique of knotted netting, with cotton or linen threads. There’s something interesting in the way in which her work is virtually weightless - being made only of thread - but carries a strong physical presence for the viewer. Medel uses her structure to explore questions of geometry, time, space and metaphysics. Her work involves intense labour and repetitive action, much like the production of the thread itself.
