Iannis Xenakis - Pithoprakta (1957), for 46 strings, two trombones, xylophone, & woodblock.
Unlike Babbitt-esque serialism, which tends to make my soul glaze over, Xenakis’ use of mathematical formulae to describe the movement of gaseous molecules results in a severe, powerful modern expressionist language.
Did a little work on the MS-20 mini on Sunday. While analog synths tend to be equated with electro these days, they’re no less at home in sample-based vibes. I also threw together a quick pattern on the Volca Beats drum machine for it.
The patching is really simple, just the control wheel to the highpass filter and Envelope Generator 1 doing a subtle reverse attack on the lowpass filter freq. Way Huge Echo Puss and EHX Cathedral pedals for extra space.
A foray into some chilled-out downtempo electronic vibes…kinda with a vocalist in mind, hence the lack of lead melodies and whatnot. First track using the new Volca Beats analog drum machine. Hope y’all enjoy.
